TXT/Marathon motor interchangeability
So I have a 99 model DCS four passenger shuttle. The motor acts as if the "transmission" is slipping. When I give the cart throttle, the motor sounds like it is turning, but the cart is barely moving. I have trouble shot it to death using my DVM and the EZ-GO repair manual. I have also torn apart and rebuilt rear axle assembly and found good clean fluid with no metal shavings. Everything keeps pointing to the motor, but still being an amateur I thought I would post for any other ideas. So other than that, the main question is will the motor off of a marathon work in place of the bad one on the TXT/DCS?

Check the rear Hubs. They strip out a lot.

The marathon motor is probably a series motor and will not work with you DCS. I would check the hubs also.

Re: TXT/Marathon motor interchangeability
Could be the brake hub is stripped. Take off the dust caps and have someone watch the center nuts to see if they are spinning faster than the wheel/tire.

Re: TXT/Marathon motor interchangeability
Not so fast. There is one more thing to check. If motor is really spinning, but little output is going to the wheels, pull the motor and check the splines on it and the rear-end. One could be stripped.

Re: TXT/Marathon motor interchangeability
That is the mystery, having taken the entire motor/axle assembly apart, all splines are good with no shavings present. . .yet the noise is coming from motor. I even took motor apart and nothing surprising there either. It is not a clicking or grinding, it is more like rubbing fingernail across cortoroy material, just louder with a lower tone. I know it sounds crazy, but I am stumped. Could an electric motor shop load test it and tell me for sure?

Re: TXT/Marathon motor interchangeability
With some help, put it on jack stands and pull the rear wheels. While holding the brake hit the gas and have someone watch the castle nuts to see if one is spinning faster than the hub. If so, bad hub..

Re: TXT/Marathon motor interchangeability
Check the F1 & F2 cables. I don't know how they are routed in a shuttle, but they have a nasty tendency to rub on the battery frame in regular carts.
Also, you can test the motor in the cart with the rear wheels off the ground, using about 18V. |
