Default Was it me?

So I know all mechanical devices will fail at some point but this weekend my heavy duty 400amp solenoid stopped working on my cart. I desperately needed to have this cart running this weekend so I found a 48v club car solenoid and installed it as a temporary fix.

My question is could I have shortened the life of the heavy duty one? I would say my driving style isn't crazy but I was doing a lot of stop and go and heavy on the throttle, and an occasional carry a heavy load (4 big adults and 2 small children) for about a mile?

Second question, when trouble shooting the problem I was getting a "Battery Under Voltage" fault code on my DCX400. I tested everything for Solenoid activation because it wasn't activating and everything lead me to think it was the solenoid and since replacing it has worked trouble free since. However would the solenoid not activating cause that fault code? Or would a bad battery/pack (btw brand new pack) cause the heavy duty solenoid not to activate?

The only 2 things I have seen shorten the life of the big main contactor are leaving it energized while not in use and a bad connection on the high amperage side causing the contacts to heat up.

I was thinking bad connection, I had replace every cable but the two large ones on the solenoid (long story with some laziness on my part).

Secondly how could I leave the solenoid energized? I do have a bad habit of leaving the F/R in forward but with the key off and on a non series cart I would assume that there is no power going through the solenoid at that point?

With a DCX controller in a DCS (or PDS), five switches have to be closed to get the solenoid to energize and stay energized.
1. Reed switch
2. Run/Tow switch
3. Key switch
4. F/R switch
5. Pedal switch

The controller powers up when the first four switches are closed, and sometime the solenoid will energize momentarily when the controller powers up, but it doesn't stay energized very long. After that, it is the pedal switch that tells the controller to energize/de-energize it.
