Default 93/94 gas Marathon stator question

If I connect a 15-20w LED to my battery, will the stator keep the battery charged? My speeds tend to be slow to mid-range. I rarely drive it WFO.

Thanks in advance for your replies. I have zero knowledge of stators or their charging rates.

Unless you’ve swapped to a predator engine there is no stator. The starter/generator is what charges the battery. It’s capable of somewhere around 15amps(ish) so yes you should be fine. I doubt that 15-20 watt LED draws more than about an amp (if even that much).

That's great news & thanks for the reply. Engine is original so has the "starter/generator", a piece of equipment I'm totally unfamiliar with. Clever piece of engineering, seems like.

Thanks again.

Basically the starter gen serves 2 purposes. When energized from the battery/solenoid it’s a motor that starts the engine. Once the engine starts and runs and the RPM’s rise past a certain point, the load/drag on the electric motor inside it turns it into an alternator/generator. Which is sent to a voltage regulator to control the field of it (just like an alternator in a car) and determines what voltage it is going to output to charge the battery.
