If it isn't 400+ strand count, don't bother.

No no no no, I know that resistors give you the 4 speeds, but, you said electrcity runs on the outside of a wire. The resistors are bare wires, and they are fully rusted. So, wouldn't that mean that I wouldn't get the right resistance because the current is trying to flow throug the rust. I know WOT bypasses the resistor completely, BUT, what about my three other speeds, I don't want superslow, slower, slow, FAST!!! You know what I'm saying??? Cause I don't, LOL!?!

Those coils are not made from regular wire....and technically you would not have the right resistance, you would have less resistance because the diameter of the wire is smaller due to rust forming.

The coils may look like wire, but they are in fact RESISTORS, just like the little brown barrel-shaped jobs on a printed circuit board, but on steroids. They can be quite corroded and still work. The only energy flowing on the outside of those coils is radiant heat. And PLENTY of it!

Thanks Gorno and Roady!!!

I didn't know they were actual "resistor"-resistors, thats pretty cool! Both your answers make sense, and thanks!!!
