12 volt Converter - The way I did it.
The cheap 12 volt, 10 amp converter that I installed on the frame as shown in the first photo works great for my head/tail lights. I also got a 12 volt motorcycle horn.
I didn't want the converter powered off the key switch as the 12 volt accessories are used infrequently. The right toggle switch is a heavy duty, 10 amp, double pole switch that I can turn on only when those accessories are needed. With the double pole switch, there is no arcing when I turn it on. No relay is needed. Since the flashing strobe light is a multivoltage, forklift type, and works great on 48 volts, I only needed a separate switch for the strobe. I use this whenever I am off my property. The bracket holding all this is 2" x 1/8" steel, bent and bolted to the frame. This keeps the switches and terminal strip high, behind the batteries so everything is easily accessible for service. I put a 1/4" thick rubber pad between the steel bracket and the aluminum frame. This works very well for me and was very simple and inexpensive to do. |

Clean job! You guys are lucky down south, able to have all those electrical connections exposed. Makes for much simpler install.

You're right about that. This old buggie never gets out in the rain so it should hold up fairly well. There are ignition sealant sprays that would protect things if needed.
I've been in GA since 1988, formerly from the Lake Erie coast of Ohio. Now talk about a corrosive environment! |
