Weird Electrical Issue

My 48 V Club Car, Ser. # A0040-942683 quit working. At the solenoid with tow switch on and key on, I have 48 volts on both small wires and 39 or so volts on the yellow cable that goes to the controller. When I depress the accelerator all of the voltages go to zero. Is this normal? I'm thinking I have a bad solenoid but I'm not sure. All of the wiring and connections are in good shape, It has new Trogan batteries and cables. Do you think I will need a service manual to troubleshoot this problem?

Check the stickies. There should be a wiring diagram for your cart in there. If not, I'm sure one of the pros will be able to help get you going.

Are you asking about a stock controller and solenoid?
Voltage goes to zero when pedal is pushed may indicate a bad cable connection.

Yes, It's a stock controller and solenoid. Upon an initial check, all connections are good; however, there are connections inside the multi-step potentiometer that I haven't accessed yet.

Have you checked voltage at the main pack to see if the voltage reading changes when the go pedal is depressed?

The way You are measuring, Yes.

You never said what voltage You have on the other Solenoid big post, the one with the red cable that comes from pack positive.

if the voltage on that post is dropping to 0v, You need to find out where you have a bad connection by tracing that cable back to the battery.

Ok, The voltage from batteries, at solenoid, remains at a constant 50.3 v when pedal is pushed down. The other big cable (going to controller from solenoid) drops to zero when pedal is pushed and slowly climbs back up to about 45.0 v when pedal is at rest.

It has me puzzled. I hoping to find a sequential troubleshooting guide so I don't miss any steps. I may have to end up buying a service manual.

Those old Regen-2 carts had all sort of weird design glitches.

Is this what You have (2 Solenoids)?

You can test the solenoid by doing the following:

Measure the voltage on the solenoid big post with the yellow cable while you run a jumper wire from the "blue/white" wire on the small post to pack negative.

The solenoid should "click" and the voltage on the big post with Yellow cable should go up to pack voltage.
