90s Club Car DS
I was looking into getting a new Club Car but am getting a 90s hand me down from the grandparents. So, now it is time for upgrades.
My main goal is to have a minimum speed of 25 mph. this will be used on a golf course and cruising with the family. I have done some research but thought I'd ask for advice on if I'm on the right track for the upgrades assuming the cart is in good working order. 1) convert to solid state speed controller and 48v with a speed motor..swapping out cables, F/R switch and solenoid 2) change from stock 12.5 gears to 8 Does this sound about right to get the speed up to 25 mph range? |

Re: 90s Club Car DS
What kind of terrain are you going to be riding on primarily? If you have many hills that will have the biggest impact on what you should do. You can get ~25mph out of a high speed motor but it wouldn't work well on hills or with a gear swap.

I'm in Central Florida so flat terrain. Golf course driving mostly or around the neighborhood.

Re: 90s Club Car DS
Since you have a resistor cart and will ultimately need to get a new motor to get those speeds you might want to look at building it up as a sepex system. My next build will go that direction or AC. You can keep it series and get what you want, my old DS hits ~28mph with a high speed motor and larger tires. I would be curious how a high speed series motor would be on the golf course with hills, softer terrain, and driving slow for that motor...even going 20mph at the course would be way to fast in my opinion.
