Default Li-ion battery problems

Friend bought a cart with li-ion batteries. Not sure if it was Club Car or EZGo.
He was having a problem with the battery/charger so he unplugged it. Called the dealer to ask him what to do about it. Was told to put it back on the charger.

Battery exploded and started a fire in his garage. Destroyed two cars and the garage.

Anyone else had a problem with li-ion batteries in your golf cart?

Default Re: Li-ion battery problems

You're not providing enough information.

#--Need to know the cart type....not essential but may be helpful
#--Need to know what kind of batteries were in the cart
#--Need to know if these Li-Ion's were ever overcharged or run down to the point where the cart just stopped.
#--Need to know if he had a BMS properly installed on the cart.

If the batteries were over or undercharged....even ONCE....they are toast. If your buddy ran 'em below the "knee" and then tried to recharge 'em, they will do exactly what they did. Explode and cause an intense fire.

If your going to install lithium batteries, then self-education is imperative to preventing what happen to your friend.

I would add to DaveTM's list of things we need to know: what charger was used. Along with, if it had the ability to change settings of charging, what were the settings?

Sorry you friend went through that, hoping no one got hurt.
