Roof painting nightmare

Well I got all the paint off from the first go round tonight. I used a wire brush on my drill and knocked it all off. I then began whopping its @$$ with my sander and 60 grit paper. I am making it a rough beeyotch that better like it when I spray it with Bulldog and then roll it with Herculiner tomorrow evening if it does not rain.

If you wouldn't mind posting pictures when you done that would be awesome.. This is something I am thinking about doing and I would like to see how yours turned out.

Ok, I used a wire brush on my drill to knock all the rest of the black Fusion paint off. I then hit the entire top with 60 grit sand paper until it was all rough and not feeling slick like it did before. After I had it sanded to my perfection, I washed it off with degreaser and let it air dry overnight.

Saturday morning the herculining commenced. I started with the underside and had the first coat on in no time. By Lunchtime I was applying the second coat. That evening I turned it over and put the first coat on the top side. I followed it up with a second coat Sunday morning.

All I have to say is that stuff is stout as hell. I will put more pics up this evening when I get home and roll her out.

Coming in a little late on this but I paint these all the time. What ive found that works for me is palm sanding with 120 followed by 220. Thoroughly cleaning with degreaser, I like "purple stuff", then use a prep solvent to wipe down before priming. High build urathane primer works best. It sands and seals well. I wet sand with 400 then shoot. Ive been painting plastics for years and made all the mistakes everyone else has but fortunately I learned quick. Waisted product is waisted money!

looking good I will add this to my list of things I need to do, the previous owner painted my canopy black with I don't know what but if I hit a big bump in the road it rains little black flakes. did you use an adhesion promotor with that or just sand the heck out of it, degrease it and roll it on. a while back I remember seeing where someone did there whole cart in that stuff and it looked pretty good

I just sanded it down to the point it did not feel greasy like they do when they are un painted and washed it thoroughly and rolled it on.
