Benchmarking My Electric DS Cart
So I finally found my Garmin GPS and decided the GPS my speed being I had no reference point for a benchmark. Aired my tires to 25 psi being all four have a slow leak in them and went for a drive. Rode down my driveway (just me on the cart, all 180 lbs of me that is) with pedal to the max and recorded 10.3 mph. Did a couple short road bursts on the asphault and got to 12.2 mph. Is this normal speed for a 1992 DS stock?
I did pull the cover off my v-glide to see the insides (if curiousity killed the cat, I should have died long time ago) and notice the highest contact seems to be recessed back slightly from the rest of the contacts. Is that normal? Pushing the pedal by hand and watching the wiper arm, I can see/feel friction as it rotates upward. Then looseness friction at the highest contact. |

Re: Benchmarking My Electric DS Cart
Normal speed for a stock golf cart (made for golf) is 10-12 mph per industry standards.
The wiper arm is spring loaded to keep it on the v-glide contacts as it swipes across them. V-glide contacts are usually all the same level so the arm can "glide" across them. The wiper arm spring tension can be adjusted via a small slot screw at the middle/bottom of the wiper arm. Usually, this does not require adjustment. A recessed contact might mean it got hot and melted the plastic a bit. Then again, might be the way it was made, and you didn't say how much recess it is compared to the others. If the wiper arm isn't hanging up when it goes from the highest (5th) contact to the next one (4th) contact, I wouldn't worry to much about it. If the contact shows visible signs of melting the plastic, that would indicate it got hot (for a reason) and you should replace the v-glide, IMO. Might as well replace the wiper arm and the wiper contact as well, so all wears the same. V-glides are temperamental. They don't like higher than normal torque loads (bigger tires, hauling heavy loads, etc.) It is the weak link in that circuit (system). Last edited by scotter; 03-21-2014 at 09:54 AM.. Re: Benchmarking My Electric DS Cart
scotter,
thanks for the reply. I'll leave everything as is until it fails or I do the solid state upgrade. Cart moves and works, so now I know that the cart is operating as it should. That has been my biggest concern ever since getting the cart. |
