Need Hel: 05 Precedent brakes
I have an 05 Precedent with 6" Allsports A-Arm lift. About a week ago the u-bolts on the rear broke. I called All Sports to get a replacement. I had the old style with just one U-Bolt per side and they sent me the new style with 2 U-Bolts per side and the square plates. I got that all installed and go back to hook up the brake cables and can't get them to extend long enough to put the pin in. Both of the brake arms on each side are fully extended to the rear. I can move one of them forward to meet the brake cable almost enough but not quite. The other one won't move at all. I looked at the brake adjustment under the floor board and it appears to be fully extended toward the rear. I know the brake pads are good since they were replaced last summer.
I'm about out of ideas so thought I would check with you guys to see what I am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated! |

Re: Need Hel: 05 Precedent brakes
Thanks David. Wow! All that to get the cables to reach? How do folks ever get them installed without it?

Re: Need Hel: 05 Precedent brakes
By installing a passenger side brake cable on the driver's side. It's longer. MUCH longer. Too long, but it works. I used to do it that way, but I've opted for the brake swap as mentioned in the link I showed you. It provides far better pedal feel and keeps the cables tucked up nicely out of the way. There's no way I'd ever do another one the old way again.

Re: Need Hel: 05 Precedent brakes
So this was working with the old style rear end on this cart before the U-Bolts broke.

You would think all sports would advise of the issues and offer a solution.

Re: Need Help: 05 Precedent brakes
Yes, I have heavy duty springs. I got away from it for a couple of days and went back yesterday to have another go at it. The turnbuckle on the brake adjustment under the floor mat was locked up with the front nut. I had tried adjusting it and couldn't budge it. So I was able to turn the rear threaded bolt itself and get enough slack in the cables to hook them up. Then tightened it back up with the rear bolt as well. Brakes work fine now. I'll have to flip the plates at a later date.
Thanks for the help! |
