TXT 'Series' motor upgrade options - for speed
Have a '99 TXT that is a 'series' configuration. I understand to gain speed is change gears (what is in there now, what could I go to?), go to taller tires (in process of this now), and upgrade the motor.
What motor options are out there that are an upgrade to what I have stock? What speeds can I expect to see compared to stock? |

Call Robby at Plum Quick! Or just take a look at their web site.

I would upgrade voltage to gain speed before I did gears or motor swap. That way if it's fast enough you are set, if not you have upgraded components needed for gears or motor.

Re: TXT 'Series' motor upgrade options - for speed
here is some info on different motors. I am not saying to buy here or not. rather here are some samples.
I have a plum quick bandit series and I can't say I saw much a huge improvement honestly. not for what I paid for it anyways. I think the shunt wound stuff see nice big increases. if I was to buy a motor for a series again, I wouldn't do a plum quick. maybe I see more when I go to 48v in a few weeks. also make sure your batts are good. http://www.ebay.com/itm/EZGO-36-Volt...31f3ca&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/EZGO-36-volt...item4163ed9ce7 |

Depending on your goals I would agree with sportcoupe. Your 36 volt motor on 48 volts will be quite a bit faster with more torque also.

Re: TXT 'Series' motor upgrade options - for speed
I went to 48 volts last year and gained a few MPH, but a ton of power for climbing hills. If you are thinking of a new motor definately spend up front first to do the voltage upgrade. That is my opinion, good luck!

Re: TXT 'Series' motor upgrade options - for speed
Thank you for the advice.
I have fairly new batteries. Can I add two more new batteries to the 6 I have, or do I need to swap all of them out? If I can add two more, where on earth would they go? |

For a custom motor give D&D a call. You'll be glad you did. Forget about off the shelf stuff. You'll also get better prices too.

Re: TXT 'Series' motor upgrade options - for speed
I don't have any experience with PQ, so I'll take your word at that, However RPM at amps is RPM at amps, and I got the best bang for the buck. Kinda depends on hills, tire diameter, and gears. I got a Raptor on 48 volts at 500 amps and no one can touch me. Again, depends on how steep your hills are. I am opposed to regen, as I believe as an engineer with 30 years + of mechanical experience. Converting downhill momentum into coasting back uphill is FAR more efficient than converting a motor into a generator, trying to recharge chemical batteries, then recover the chemical energy into mechanical energy.
BUT, that assumes you like to free-wheel downhill and use the fact that gravity is recoverable minus losses. If you don't like to go downhill at 35+ MPH, regen makes sense. Regen is Great if you do a lot of stop/start. My two pedals are always pressed to the floor, so I think I get the best bang for the buck. Only hit the brakes when an obstacle get in the way. Not meaning to be argumentative, just pointing out driving conditions vary. |
