solenoid testing
I have been trying to diagnose an issue with my golf cart for about a week when I have the time and found out yesterday it was my solenoid. I talked to a golf cart mechanic who helped me find out that the solenoid was my problem. He told me I could check the solenoid with a voltmeter or attach a wire between the 2 large terminals and see if the golf cart runs;which is the method I used. I attached the wire and as expected it sparked but stopped when I had a somewhat solid connection and then it ran. My question is: is it okay to leave the wire connected to the 2 terminals and use it run the golf cart while I wait on my new solenoid to arrive? I was hesitant to driving it yesterday with it like that but I drove it slowly out of the garage and about 4 houses down and back. I had the pedal about 1/4 of the way down because I didn't know what would happen.

With the solenoid jumped out you are bypassing every safety circuit circuit in the cart. You don't need it except in an emergency. If you are going to jumper it out be sure to use a large gauge wire.

The solenoid may be good and its not energizing because another circuit has failed.
