1996 Club car carryall only starts when gas is barely pressed

It does turn over no matter how far the gas is pressed but only starts when you just barely push it then it dies and just turns over after about 1/8 throttle. It won't turn over with the key, it's on or off. I know the old gas and dirty carb needs fixed. Just wondering if I need to look into something else while I'm at it.

IDK. The one I have now, and all the ones I have worked on, and the ones used working at golf courses turn over when the key is switched on.

Maybe it's supposed to or someone changed the key switch on it and I can't figure out how to. I have a regular 2008 ds and it seems the same as it as far as starting. It says carryall II on the side of it if that means anything.

OK. Let's not complicate this. So yours starts like a regular golf cart. Key on, you press the gas pedal and the starter/generator spins over and starts engine like a regular DS golf cart. Is that correct?

Got it running, now at full throttle it surges and the throttle opens and closes. Would that be a governor adjustment and how would I do that? Also when it first starts it acts like it has to much compression or something and the belt squalls.

Do you have fresh fuel in it? I mean like just bought the other day fuel, not fuel in a can and can't recall when it was bought? Filter how does it look and is there fuel in it? Even a little fuel?
check compression and adjust valves.
Or do this first > Take carb off, drop bowl, clean inside and make sure jet is clean.

Yes the throttle will back off with the gov hooked up, my 99 does and it's all stock.

I bought gas today and flushed the tank out and put new fuel filters, air filter , spark plug, fuel lines and a new carb on it. The problem seems intermitten now as far as starting past around 1/4 throttle or not. It still starts to turn over then almost stops then takes off. I probably do need to adjust the valves, I had a mower that did the same thing and it was the valve adjustment

Does it do the same thing in neutral or service mode?
