Re: Transmission problem...
Yeah hard to see in the pic but if it’s that worn that’s not normal.
Could be from the cable be misadjusted or from the synchro not engaging all the way and the fork was pushing against the collar. See similar wear in manual transmissions when people rest their hand on the shifter. I’ll take a look in my stash tomorrow, I may have one of those forks floating around. |

Re: Transmission problem...
Thanks, I'd gladly buy it from you if you do
Hate to junk an otherwise good transmission. As long as I held the shifter down (which would hold the synchro collar onto the gear) it drove perfect. No noises or issues at all. Really, 95% of the time it drove great. It would only pop out under a heavy load, most people probably wouldnt even notice. But I know it would only get worse with time as it wears further. |

Re: Transmission problem...
Sorry man, No dice on the shift fork.
Had a spare transmission that had a hole in the case and had been run out of oil (gears and bearings were toasted). Thought it was still in the back, but it looks like I got rid of it last time I took scrap to the yard. Might put a post in the wanted section here or ask David if he has any laying around. |

Re: Transmission problem...
Big thanks to david hicks for the help. He didnt have a shift fork but helped me find someone who did
Got everything cleaned out in the trans good. New shift fork and should be ready to go. It fully engages in gear now, before when it was "engaged" it was a good 1/4" away from being fully seated. A couple pics showing how much it was worn down on the forward side. Reverse side looked great. The only think I can think of that would have caused this is the shift cable not being properly adjusted. And over time must have slowly worn it down. (this cart is a 2002 and unknown history, but since I've owned it I've now replaced the starter/generator, rebuilt the engine, and replaced the entire rear end) |

Re: Transmission problem...
Heres a pic you can compare to the old fork, now forward is actually all the way on forward before it just barely contacted the gear.
I really dont have any use for this, and moving soon so I'll probably sell it and recoup some of my money from the other transmission I bought. Ebay here I come |

Re: Transmission problem...
Looks like it's ready to rock now! You wanna rebuild this GMC CH465 transmission for me? It shifts good sometimes, but makes some noise when it moves...

Re: Transmission problem...
Thought I'd piggy back onto a related thread with two guys in it that are pretty knowledgeable on this site. I have a 1990 Club Car and there is a slight bit of endplay in the shaft as I tug on the driven clutch. I also have an '87 Club Car that has no end play at all. Is a little bit acceptable? This is obviously the old 1986-1996 counter-clockwise rear end. Like CP241 I've never torn into a rear end before as I've not ever had a reason to.
I'm looking on Golf Cart Parts Direct's website and they don't have a diagram for the transmission for the 1984-1991 carts in order to get parts (?). They do have parts for the 1992-1996 transmission, which looks to be the same unit. Wondering what item within the tranny is causing the end play. |
