Here's a surprise I got from UPS today. I had ordered a 295 from this site 1 year ago and got the style as most people had seen. This may be common knowledge to some, but I thought I had got the wrong head until I measured it. Totally different combustion chamber, the same volume. I poured oil in one head with valves and a pludg and then poured it in the other head and it is exactly full on both. Same head, older or newer style. It's not the MCI!
Imlike the shape ofnthe most recently bought head. I wonder how you could specify the difference.?

Here's a different view. I haven't been looking in these long. Does anyone know what year this might be?

Tony,
Give us a shot of both heads side by side so we can see both chambers at once. That new head looks to have a better chamber design than the old(?) style 295 head.

Hello Tony,

If my eyes are not to bad:

Both 295, but one is shaved and they they drilled(?) out the head.
Look at the space above the sparkhole.
Maybee its done becouse of the better firechamber?
I think so, because the enginebuilders of my engines still use the 350 heads and shaved them down.
See the pics in my album

It is a better fire chamber. So, you think this is just a modified standard 295 head? That I could understand. I never saw that shape in that size head.
I've studied your album. They are all 350 heads that are shaved. That would be better, I beleive a dome shape is more efficient. I have a couple usable 350 heads also.
Whoever did it, was good. It has a very nice shape to it.

Quick question in regards to your shaved 350 heads.. how much do you shave off i you dont mind me asking? because i was making a clamping fixture the other day to hold the 295/350 heads in my mill vice, and i did some measuring and such, and using the sock valves, a safe amout to avioid the valve hitting the piston is around 25thou.

Did you go more, and shave the tops of your valves?

Because i remember seeing somewhere a 295 head shaved soo much that the closed chamber indent was flat with the head surface.... if you get what im sayin?

I don't know much about the milling o0f the heads. I have heard .020-.025 is a good start point. Look in Bennos pictures in his album. (subarumouse) There are some in there that are almost cut to the bolt holes being flat on the bottom. I also heard .050, but the belt adjuster will probably be too loose. Hopefully we get a precise number, this is heresay, what i have heard.

Good news on the ongoing 350 MCI. I bolted the "mystery 295 head" on the MCI 350 block and we have strong 6000 rpm. It will pull up the roads (hills) at a steady
5K. This is the best results, so far. I tossed the LVS cam for this test and, of course, I have no comparison, yet.
My brother ordered a video camera for his job, (golf Lessons) and it is programmed for loading to youtube. We wil get some video!
We talked about the cams. there are some slight differences. It looks like two designs, but I need to check part numbers to see how many kinds they should have.
There are some cams being ground for testing purposes. I may be the test dummy. We will keep you informed on that and may start a new thread.
One thing to say about a cart that turns 6000 rpm with 22" tires...........NEEDS BETTER BRAKES!!!
