G2 will not turn over
We have a 1986 G2 that as the title says will not turn over at all. It has a new starter. The solenoid does not click in at all but has 12 volts on all the leads but the one going to the starter. Does anyone have any input on what may be going on? I put another solenoid off of something else on and it does the same thing. I can jump the 2 posts and the engine turns over then.

Re: G2 will not turn over
Did you check the fuse?
Which two posts you jump? large or small? Start by removing the two wires from the small posts and use two jumpers from the battery to them, doesn't matter which post gets pos or neg. Does it spin over then? |

Re: G2 will not turn over
I did find a blown fuse, replaced it and stilll nothing. I jumped the 2 big posts to get it to turn over. I will try the jumper wire today.
I used a solenoid off of a old Ford truck to try will this be OK?? Mac |

Re: G2 will not turn over
Old Ford truck solenoid ok for trial only as it's not rated for continuous operation. I wouldn't run it any longer than 60 seconds or you may let the smoke out. Even 60 seconds might be too long, be careful!! RAY

voltage? |

Re: G2 will not turn over
"Dooms" is right on!! The "low" side terminal (small one) of the solenoid goes to bat. minus through a fuse and should not show voltage. You may have something wrong in the ground circuit and the solenoid is not picking up. Try to find that fuse and check it first. Looks like the G2 has two 10 amp fuses. One is in the ground circuit and one is in the +12 v. circuit. Good luck- RAY

Re: G2 will not turn over
i have a 86 g2 as well and it just shut down on my while driving, and now wont turn over at all, you hit the pedal and nothing happens. I checked everything, the key switch, pedal switch engine oil level shutdown and everything checks out either volts or oHms. then i just decided to check the Igniter even thou i wouldnt think that would have anything to do with it but when i unpluged it the connectors were all craped up and two of the wires were so bad that they rusted right off so it wasent even connected at all, i dont know if that is what it is but i hope it is, the sucky part is the Igniter is 220.00 new so i havent have the money to buy it, to see if that does it, but that was the only part what so ever that didnt check out, so if i were you i would unplug the Igniter thats bolted to the gas tank and check all connections.

Re: G2 will not turn over
If it is just a bad plug, replace both halves with a GM type sealed plug or for test purposes use jumper wires to bypass the plug to test.

Re: G2 will not turn over
Good news, I found my problem. I have a break in the ground somewhere. I found out also it affected me back up buzzer and oil light. None of these worked at all.
Now the fix, I run a ground wire from the negative terminal to the bottom spade terminal on the starter solenoid. I tried and it and now everything is back to working. I tested it out tonight and it seems as good as new. Thanks for all the help guys. Mac |

Re: G2 will not turn over
Check your neg battery cable and ground cable that runs to the motor,
They need to be connected and clean for the system to work properly or you could be using your smaller ground you just installed for the whole cart and that is not good. |
