Drained Batteries

Yesterday I used my cart (1992 CC DS 36v) and happened to leave the key on. After doing what I needed (couple hours), I came back to the cart and it would not move. Pulled it back home with our tractor and tried to charge. Charger would turn on and then off. Isolated the batteries and used a couple chargers and a solar charger. Checking with my voltmeter now I have 36.3v, but still the charger turns on then off. Any thoughts? Batteries are less than 2 months old and are US Battery 2200.

I've noticed some differences in the volt readings using my voltmeter (Fluke Ammeter) and one of the battery chargers (Black and Decker BC12B). My Fluke will say 12.0v whereas the B&D will say 11.6v.

On the charger, when I unplug the AC and DC plug and plug them back in, I get 20A for a few seconds then the charger turns off. If I immediately unplug either plug and replug, the charger turns on and instantly turns off. A couple times I've noticed when the charger turns off the ammeter is at 10A and sometimes it falls all the way to 0A. The charger is an old Club Car charger.

The cart is a 36v cart, so still 36.3v is only 50%? What is full charge and what voltage is required for charger to start?

Thinking now I just need to use the 12v chargers more.

Welcome to BGW, 38.22 is a fully charged 36 volt pack, what batteries do you have in this cart?, sounds like 3 - 12 volt batteries

reading this article like the graph. I have a 48 volt cart 6 8 volt batteries. Fully charged the batteries and cahrger turned off. Was told to turn on headlights for 10 seconds to get rid of false reading. I was showing 49 volts. So according to the chart I am only at about 65% charge. Batteries are 1 year old. purchased the cart used. Batteries are les schwab golf cart batteries. why am I only showing a 65% charge. Bad batteries or charger not working correctly.

I have six (6) 6v US Battery 2200 batteries.

What is the required voltage for the Club Car charger to turn on?

Is there not a way to bypass the low voltage setting?

If your pack reads 36.3 volts, that is more than enough for your "big" cart charger to work properly. Since it starts to charge and then shuts down, something is wrong with the charger - or - the batteries (eg. shorted cell somewhere). I'm not sure where you are getting 12v measurements on your 6v batteries - you must be testing two at a time? You need to check the voltage on each battery to see if there is a big variation on one of them. If not, then the fault must be within your charger.

First - list your INDIVIDUAL battery voltages and tell us what they are.

Seems I finally got the voltage where it needed to be. Have the 36v charger on the bank and it is charging at 18a. Checked with ammeter and 18.3a charging.
