Re: Got a G2 for a friend... now how to make it faster...?
He is going to clean it up, change the dirty oil and change the 90w in the rear end today.
I hooked up my little tach to the plug wire and it showed 3550 RPM with the throttle pined sitting there.... thats when I saw the throttle plate was not moving... |

Re: Got a G2 for a friend... now how to make it faster...?
The carb controls how much air goes into the engine, and how much fuel goes with it. If the engine revs up by itself in neutral, I'd expect to see the throttle sticking open. See if you can move the carb butterfly by hand and close it to get it to idle down. The cable might be too tight or not adjusted properly. You want a little bit of slack in cable at idle.
The ignitor is part of the ignition system that feeds power to the coil and spark plug. Apparently it has a built in electronic limiter that shuts power down to the spark plug at a certain rpm, say 4000 or so. This electronically limits the top speed of the cart. The governor on the transmission is a mechanical speed limiter. As the cart moves faster, the wheels turn faster, in turn adding revs to the internals of the transmission. The governor has fly weights that move to offer resistance to the speed of the transmission, which keeps the ground speed of the cart down. If you've by passed it, it no longer functions as a governor. |

It sounds like the carb butterfly came loose and is letting air in.

Gman.... "Get one from a G9 and you should be good." So I look for a
"rev limiter/ignitor" thats the Yamaha name for it? Like this: http://www.cartbarn.com/ignitor-yamaha-g9-1990-94/ |

Re: Got a G2 for a friend... now how to make it faster...?
slo.... We used the butterfly to rev it also and its free and returns although the spring needs to be shortened as its not pulling to the throttle stop.
If using the pedal does not move the plate the air has to be coming in from the vac thingie (proper technical term) on the gas tank I would think. If we don't use the pedal and just the butterfly it revs up too. This is how we got it so I don't know why or how but the manual says it limited to 12 MPH... maybe my guess of 9mph is off. All I know is my Toro says it runs 19-23 mph and it feels a ton faster...? (wind in face and what hair I have left moves around...) |

Re: Got a G2 for a friend... now how to make it faster...?
On another note the manual says the key should have 3 positions OFF/CHECK/ ON but it only has 2. CC for off and straight up allows the cart to start and drive but that is 'sposed to be the CHECK position...??

Re: Got a G2 for a friend... now how to make it faster...?
You can also limit top speed by adjusting throttle cable since governor is bypassed but I really love the redneck resistor on the slot cart trickI've had to used similar tricks for my sons four wheelers
