Default battery protection

I'm installing a Bagwell battery. Has anyone ever used plastic to cover a battery inside a battery case, then spraying great stuff around it for padding??? Just an idea I've been contemplating!

Is this a battery that you will have to add water to or maintenance free? If your using a regular vented battery over a sealed one there will be vapors as well as water spillage sooner or later while topping off cells. If the battery is encased in foam it will absorb the acid laced water...

Good point teecro, I was only covering the bottom and sides, leaving the top open!

I kinda figured that as you never know when you have to disconnect the cables etc.... My biggest concern would be spillage if a vented battery. Here on board ship we have numerous systems that have battery power for emergency back up and whenever I can I use sealed battery as it never fails that you will have spillage and dealing with spillage inside some enclosures is a PITA....

Sealed batteries need to vent too.

NOT if they are true sealed batteries... The Odyssey battery in my bike can be installed upside down if one wants to do it that way. The Power Sonic we use in the control cabinets are plastic welded shut and can also be used in any position....

Check the specs again. Odyessy batteries are AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid). They can be broken open and not spill a drop. While they can be installed in any position, they do indeed need to be in a vented enclosure.

Thanks for the link... Good info....

Figuring we are still safe though "The only requirement is that these batteries must not be installed in a sealed or
gastight enclosure." which our control cabs are not gastight....
