Default How remove secondary sheave(clutch) nut?

I thought maybe I could hold the sheave with one hand and remove the nut but the nut is really on there tight.

I tried putting it in gear but too scare to break the gears teeth so I did not apply any heavy force on the wrench.

Service manual show need a special sheave holder to remove the nut, is there a way to remove it without the special tool?

I hold it with my hand and use an impact gun.

So you take the transmission out of the cart to do this then?

Nope, just remove the wheel.

The nut was stubborn and couldn't hold it so I used an old starter belt and wood by applying torque to the secondary sheave to hold the shaft in place.

It did the trick and got the nut off.

Is there a way to get the primary sheave off the shaft without a pulley or I will need to buy one? I tried light tapping it with a wood and it wouldn't budge.

Thank you for the feedback!

Bill

IMHO The puller is cheap, broken parts are expensive. Point 2 doing it yourself even buying a puller very cheap, going to a shop not so cheap.

Just give it some love taps with a hammer, that's all I ever do and I have taken those off at least 20 different G2/9's

I just did mine a week ago, mine was rusty, I tried the hammer thing for a while and nothing. I used a puller, I did not use the OEM puller I just used a puller I had around the house, and some bolts that fit in the holes. In my case, If I did not have I would have needed the puller they sell. I wouldn't be prying or hammering on that sheave, try it very nicely, and if that don't work save yourself from breaking some stuff and get the puller.

Finally got the new shoes on, It was a pain getting the shoes pressed in even if I pre-lube the shaft.

I put the spring in the slots "4" and "B" then yell at my wife to put the outer sheave on while I compress the inner sheave against the spring. We managed to get it on but I noticed that none of the shoes was touching the other sheave so i went back to the service book and it said turn to compress the spring 60 degree. Dang it!!!!

Took it all apart again then yell at my wife to come back outside. I wasn't sure what 60 degree but I turn it that it went past two shoes then press it in and again my wife quickly put the outer sheave on .. Phew .... What a pain it was putting it back together. Not sure how a person could do it alone.

Now it the sheave are touching the shoes and took it out for a drive, seem to be driving pretty good so I guess I got the 60 degree thing correctly. I hope ..
