If the drive belt is not worn down (width) I would bet the problem lies within your driven clutch .

I would check the rear (driven) clutch.

With the drive belt removed grab both sheaths (each side of where the belt rides) of the rear clutch and try to "twist" them by holding the inside sheath while pulling the outer sheath towards the front of the cart,if you can twist it easily then your spring is either weak or broken.I'm not very good at explaining how to do stuff so hope you understand what I'm saying ,if not please don't hesitate to say so and I'll try again, also I'm sure some more members will be along shortly with tips to help you get it climbing hills again for your son .

Are you fat.. jesus.. how is that even a question? These carts are designed to haul 800 pounds around a golf course, I highly doubt someone's weight is going to affect it.

I would try running a slightly smaller than factory belt. It helps change the gearing a little bit and makes it a bit torquier. It also lowers the top speed a little, but I am guessing that isn't a big deal for you. Good luck!
