2014 TXT48 won't go. Resistor smoking after power surge.
Hi everyone. This is my first time working on golf carts so bare with me. Long story short, wife left golf cart charger plugged in during storm. We had a lightning strike and big power surge that fried a few electronics in the house that were plugged in. She calls next day and says golf cart won't move. Makes reverse beep but no go. I get home and go to look at it and the pre charge resistor on the solenoid is smoking. Unplug batteries, pull resistor off.
Solenoid is not clicking. Batteries are fine. Have full pack voltage. Don't think solenoid was damaged but replaced it and precharge resistor just in case. With brand new solenoid and resistor on, cart in tow mode, and key off as soon as I hook the batteries back up resistor instantly gets really hot. Am I looking at a bad controller? Are there other things I need to check first. Controller is stock. Curtis 1206-5201 |

In my experience, that "immediately hot resistor" is associated with a shorted controller. If you want to have a real good smoke show, manually apply power to the small terminals on the solenoid.
