Western cart problem
I’m new to buggiegonewild. I just inherited this western cart from my mother in law it has been sitting for about 5 years.
Decide to get it going purchased new batteries clean it up with new battery cables. Took it out for a half mile drive, parked it Tried it again ½ hour later would barely move f or r. charged batteries for 6 hrs no difference. Raised back tires off the ground tried it again full 42 volts to the motor full speed no problem f and r . put it on the ground nothing barely moves. |

Re: Western cart problem
The first question in any no go situation is what does the battery pack do when you try to go. Does the voltage drop and if yes, how much?

Re: Western cart problem
No drop at all? a 42v pack fully charged should read 44.5v and each battery should be 6.37v. Under full load you should be pulling 100 to 200 amps and the voltage should drop a few volts between the main + and - terminals of the battery pack.
If you have no voltage drop then you either have a faulty meter or measuring method, or you have another fault preventing the 100+ amps from being drawn. |

Re: Western cart problem
Update on western golf cart check voltage at full throttle with rear wheels on jack stands 44.5 volt no drop. Lowered carted to the ground full throttle again barely moved, acting like it has no balls Voltage dropped about 2 volts to 42.5 took motor out clean it. Turn Commutator and brushes. Is it possible windings it motor are bad.

Re: Western cart problem
It is possible the cart was parked because the motor is worn out. Do you have the ability to or the local shop who can turn the armature and put new brushes in it?
Also is it a series drive? With a rotary F&R switch? If yes it could be a poor connection there is limiting the amperage getting to the motor |

Re: Western cart problem
Yes I do have access and ability to turn the armature. But I’ll try the f & r switch first
Thanks |

Tell us drive type. Series will have an FNR that carries full current. SepEx does not. |

Re: Western cart problem
It’s a series, Rotary forward and reverse switch. No run & tow switch
