Default Only 37.2v After Full-Charge

Hey everyone,

I've recently purchaed a 2001 G16 in pretty good shape. My issue that I am having is that I'm only getting 37.2v at the end of my charge. Charger seems to be working correctly and powering on/off as it should. I've got a volt meter installed from cartsunlimited, so I'm pretty sure my output readings are correct. The (6) batteries are in great shape and the water level inside them is good, cable connections are strong, also. What do you all suggest my next step should be? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Plug in the charger, measure battery pack as it nears fully charged, right before the charger shuts off. You will have to babysit it to get the info.

Ok, will do! I'll post the number here as soon as I can.

So the reading was at 38.9 after the charge completed and was unplugged. About 30 minutes later it has dipped to 37.7

So, the reading was 44.5 just before the charger cut off. Does that indicate the batteries are probably the issue and not the charger?

As per the attached State of Charge Chart, at 37.2 volts, your batteries are only seeing about a 70% state of charge.

As per the attached Trojan Battery charging voltage chart, during the bulk charge stage you should be seeing about 44.5 volts and 48.6 volts during the finish charge stage.

The transition stage between the bulk charge and the finish charge should be in about the 90% state of charge state ... but your are only seeing 70%.

Brainstorming here, I can see two possibilities:

1) You might have a bad battery in the pack. Record the static voltage of your battery pack and then record each battery voltage. If one (or more) batteries are significantly lower than the others, that is a problem. If they are all within 0.1 to 0.2 volts, you will want to test the battery pack voltage and each individual battery voltage while you are driving the cart (a load test ... best to do while going up a hill if possible) to see if any battery is dropping out on you (has a much lower voltage).

If the testing in (1) above does not reveal any problems, then:

(2) You may be having a problem with your charger shutting down prematurely. Do you have an amp meter on your charger or another way of measuring amperage while charging. If so, you will want to record volts and amps while charging to understand what your charger is doing.

Here's my readings after letting it sit overnight after it charged:

6.21
6.20
6.20
6.18
6.20
6.19

Just based on basic assumptions, it looks like maybe the charger is shutting off prematurely...It seems more probable that this is the culprit rather than having 6 batteries be going bad. Am I wrong with this logic? Any other steps toward problem-solving this issue?
