Another Marathon
Just took in a 93 marathon with the obligatory rusted out battery tray but it seems like this project has been done here before. I know I have a good amount of work ahead, but I am also in no rush. First, I want to see if the existing 36v controller and motor are still functional, but I have grand plans to go to 48v in the long run (sooner if existing electronics are shot). I'm thinking I take the 12v deep cycles from the boat when the season is over and wire them in series just to see before investing in official cart batteries. Once I know what works, I can cut out old battery frame (not much left) and fab a tray from some angle iron to fit whatever batteries I go with. Open to any suggestions and guidance, and hopefully I can lend any knowledge in return.
Sorry for sideways pics |

Re: Another Marathon
I’ve done that a few times. And old bed frame works great.

Re: Another Marathon
Pretty much exactly what I am dealing with. Did you stay with 36V or change to 6 8V batteries? Can the 36V motor handle 48V with the right speed controller?

Re: Another Marathon
These were for customers, so I left them both 36v. That said, with the right controller, solenoid, and cable set, the motor will do great on 48v.

Re: Another Marathon
Make sure it is a controller for series motors. Most series controllers don't need any kind of adapters but not sure about the Navitas. There is very little "wiring harness" to change in a cart like that.
