G9 charging 16.7 volts - too high?
G9 with fully charged battery (12.6v) is charging at 16.7 volts at full throttle. Is this acceptable or should I look at replacing the regulator? I believe the old battery was "cooked" by overcharging as it was low on water.
I grounded the green wire at the starter/generator and I got the same voltage of 16.7 .... failed regulator in the "charge" position" ? |

Yeah 16.7 is too high. I believe you want 14.5 max volts, usually 13.0-13.5 is most common and will do.

Yes replace the voltage regulator. And don’t drive the cart until you do or you’ll probably be replacing the battery too.
I’d HIGHLY recommend an oem regulator. The cheapies on Amazon either work or they blow fuses and melt things. All or nothing type of deal. And I’d say about half the ones that “work” don’t work for very long before they either blow fuses or melt ground wires. |

I’ve had several G2’s and G9’s and none of them had an adjustable VR. Maybe the G1 and early G2’s might have but I’ve never seen one personally

Make sure the regulator ground wire is grounded correctly before you give up on the one in there.

New regulator (dbelectrical version). Still overcharging at 16.7 volts. The regulator has the 4 wire harness. What wires can I probe at the harness to look for ground and generator output? Thanks.

Continuity on G and R/W back to the starter generator.
Battery voltage on Br with engine spinning. Still charging at 17 volts full throttle ? |
