Re: exhaust disassembly question
well I BBQd the muffler. I got a LOT of smoke out of the pipe that connects to the engine. Cooked it for about 2 hours before the smoke stopped coming out. Had a little bit of flame coming out for the first few minutes.
While it was cooling I ran to the auto parts store and got a tube of the Permatex Copper RTV gasket/sealant stuff. rated to about 700 degrees. Back to shop. I tapped out the hole in the exhaust flange where the butterfly valve shaft used to be and inserted a 1/2-13 bolt. I coated the bolt threads with the RTV. I also used the RTV to put a thin film on each side of the exhaust gasket. Bolted up the flange and put the engine shroud back on. Mounted up the freshly baked muffler and used a generous amount of the RTV on the exhaust flange to compensate for the frozen-corroded-in-place sealing rings. Left her sit overnight. Next day I fired her up and lo and behold not only is this gorl quieter than ever, I do beleive she has just a little more zing! Now my wife is happy again and she can run our dogs. You know it was funny, she didn't give a rats a$$ about my buggy until she figured out she could run our dogs with it. Now if the buggy is down for a day she get's all bent out of shape. Thanks to all you guys for the comments and advice! Steve |
