Default Where do I get a new Steering box for a g9

When I steer my G9 it has 2 inches of play each way . I can see the shaft coming out of the box move up in down when I have some one steer . It causing a dangerous speed wobble . I cannot find where to buy a new one . I tried ebay and all other websites ...... Are they rebuildable . Thanks in advance

Glamis, start by taking the top cover off, 4, 10 mm bolts. And pack the inside with wheel bearing grease, pack it full. Put the cover back on.

Then there is an adjustment screw with a jamb nut around it, kinda in the center of that cover. Loosen that nut and turn that screw in till it lightly bottoms out, then back it off maybe about an 1/8 turn.

Jack up the front of the car, then turn the steering wheel lock to lock to feel for binding, or drag. If you don't feel any, turn the screw in about 1/16 turn. If you do feel it drag, loosen it off a 1/16 turn. Adjust it in or out till you don't feel any binding or drag, and you should eliminate most of that free play.

It may be worn out, but this is where you start. Most of us have found that this procedure helps quite abit.

I've adjusted mine a few times, you know maybe I should grease it lol.

If you need to find out if yamaha has the parts, and easy way is go to TNT golfcarts site and they have diagrams of all parts and prices.

Block or Gump, whom ever you are tonight? I will never be a master. I've still only built one car,(battery cars don't count). Never even seen a G16 or G9 for that matter. So the way I see it, its gonna be awhile, but thats ok. I'm learnin!! Thats why I spend so much time here!

Sho, the grease is what does the most. So pack just as full as you can. When mine was loose, I read an old thread where Smallblock posted to do what I just told Glamis to do. Mine feels almost new now.

I've done 3 of them so far, got the same results each time!

Yes I'm bringing back an old (useful) thread.......

While searching on how to reduce the steering play on my G9 I must have seen MAC and others suggest "search grease in steering box" to 100 members looking for the same info as I was. That search brought up a ton of threads about greasing and adjusting the steering box which is what I needed so thank you for that!

I think this info is STICKY worthy and picked this one because it says it best.

One question I did not find the answer to....... Is oil going to run all over when the cover is removed? It's tight up in there and I like to be prepared for these things.

Have a rag handy, but no, it shouldn't. It's bearing grease.
