inherited 93 Club Car part 2

yeeehaww !! i got the cart up and running !!
all lights come on and i put in a Jeep horn (lol .. yeep yeep!)
i want to thank ya'll for all the useful things i've read and tried
so far i renewed the batteries getting 6.03-6.15v
i replaced the battery cables & cleaned most of the connections
$20 so far
now the questions i have and a problem
1) how far should i be able to travel on a single charge ?
after i charged the batteries i drove it 10.4 miles before it started to slow down it was at 30.3v when i recharged it ( or should i say TRIED to see below) batteries went to 37.8v been going strong all week !!
2) there is a switch on the back of the brake pedal .. is it for brake lights ?
3) reverse wire ( green) is connected to only 18v .. diagrams show 24v.. why not 36v?? should i change it to 24v or 36v ?

ok now for the only problem i have come across the charger stopped working after first charge ( had to charge batteries with 12v charger )
batteries were at 30.3v and fuse-able link is good
it is a Lestronic II 36V, model 07850 11-89
i read a post that if i took photo's someone might be able to help me with it
so i attached them below

reversse is 1/2 speed so thats ok.......as for how far you should be able to go?? its gonna be different for everyone but i think you should get much more than 10 miles..........as for the charger you need to start testing it to find out what might have happened...........1st make sure you have AC power ........this is where a manual comes in handy it takes you thur step by step.......................................

30v is lower than I like to see a battery pack drawn down to, see the notes on the chart below.

Old or abused batteries will deliver reduced performance.

i checked the ac in lines and they are good (125v ac)
checked other wiring found something strange

nut holding red wire to ammeter was finger tight and where it belongs on heat sink was lose too .. i remember a few years ago that Rodger ( old guy) had the cart taken to local shop because it would not hold a charge .. they told him he needed new batteries and charger .. roger did not get anything done and they returned the cart and charger to him
do you think they rewired it to sell him a charger ??
should i put red wire where it goes ?
did i mess it up by using it the first time and it burned something out ?

yea they are '05 batteries

the service manual for your cart will also have everything for charger in it..........just find the C.C. service manual for your cart........................

i moved the red wire and charger turns on .. will check it sunday

How did you renew the batteries? The reason I am asking is that I can't see how the charger worked the first time with no power on the control board/timer. The wire you moved is what puts the DC output of the charger onto the control board/timer. With no power on that the first time, I don't see how you could have actually gotten the relay to pull in and put a charger on the batteries.

i "renewed" the batteries by draining all the old battery water and refilling them with the Epsom salt / distilled water mix then i charged each battery to around 6v and reinstalled them in the cart got aprox 35v so i hooked up charger and left it over night .. i checked the next morning and the batteries were at 36.5 v
so i assumed that the charger had worked .. i drove around 10 miles til cart started to slow (about 30.3v) and then put charger on and when i checked it later it had not charged .. i plugged it into a neighbors cart and it did nothing his charger started to charge my cart so i took it home and used my 12v auto charger tto charge the batteries

i will say i did not look at ammeter the first time i plugged it in (was dark out) but i thought i heard a hum

i plugged charger in this morning and ammeter did not move but i heard the click of the relay and a hum my batteries were at 35.7 v

if the meter does not move and it HUMS real loud you have a diode assy out.
