Re: proper wiring?
Lights on a golf cart should use a two (2) wire system. That is, do not try to use ground as one of your connections (as in autos). One wire should connect to the negative (-) of your voltage source and the other wire, (through a fuse and a switch) should connect to the positive (+) of your voltage source. The common convention is to use black wire for the negative and red wire for the positive. Your voltage source will be any two adjacent batteries totaling 12 volts (if using 12 volt lights). This type of connection will result in the batteries used for the lights to become unbalanced from the rest and in need of individual charging from time to time. Another option to eliminate the voltage unbalance would be to use a voltage converter to reduce your total pack voltage to 12 volts to power the lights and any other accessories. This converter needs to be sized correctly to match whatever load you have. Still another option (which I am using) to eliminate battery unbalance is to use 36 volt bulbs in your lights and then connect directly to the batteries (through the switch and fuse of course). Hope this helps. RAY
