G16 clutch repair, basic questions
I'm planning to replace the 3 rollers in my g16 clutch, all have very bad flat spots. First question: Are the threads on the clutch bolt regular right-hand, or are they left-hand threads? (I have ordered the removal tool.) Also, any tips for making the roller replacement go as smoothly as possible? I'm fairly good at mechanical things, but this is my first try at this clutch thing, and I don't want to screw it up.

Re: G16 clutch repair, basic questions
I'm thinking the answer to the 'left or right threads' question will be obvious when my removal tool arrives. I'd still appreciate any tips on what I need to do to get to the rollers, which I've only been able to look at with the clutch still in the cart.

Re: G16 clutch repair, basic questions
The clutch is very hard to get apart and be careful of damage to either of the pieces. I replaced my rollers to find out there's a lot more to it than the rollers. I would call Don @ plowmans for advice and maybe some help.
Hope this helps, some!!!!!!! LURCH!!!!! |

Re: G16 clutch repair, basic questions
I replaced the rollers and sliding bushing in my G16 last year. The guys are correct, it's really a bear to get apart!! First, the threads between the spider and clutch have had loctite applied at the factory and this thread needs to be heated in order to break them free.second, you need to come up with a way to hold the clutch while you unscrew the spider. In my case, I made up a hardwood board to hold the spider, while I unscrewed the clutch from the spider. The clutch has a very large, substantial boss at the center where it attaches to the crankshaft and I attached a huge pipe wrench to this boss in order to unscrew the clutch from the spider. The last problem is keeping the hardwood board from spinning while you unscrew the clutch (a case of beer and a helper comes in handy here). Once you get the spider separated from the clutch, the rest is pretty easy. Make sure you take a few pictures before you start and during dis-assembly for reference. Of course you need to use loctite again upon re-assembly. Good luck - RAY
PS-The threads on the crankshaft attachment and also on the spider are normal right hand threads. |

Re: G16 clutch repair, basic questions
Thanks guys for all the help. My removal tool and rollers arrived about an hour ago, so I guess my work will start this weekend. After golf, of course. Again, thanks, especially bigstik40 for the detail about the spider.
