Default Which is the 'Hot Wire' on the Key Ignition?

Hey Everyone, just got my first cart to work on so pretty new to all of this.

I got an '02 Yamaha G19 with ALOT more rust than I knew about when I bought it (live and learn!)

But thanks to the forums and you tube videos I think I can manage most of what I want to do to the cart!

Anyways I wanted to wire my Voltage converter to the Hot Wire on the key ignition so nothing turns on unless the key is turned on (for parking brake primarily).

Could anyone tell me which wire is the Hot Wire please?
Is it the Solid Red or Red/White?

Thanks!
-Charles

I couldn't tell you off the top of my head but, I can tell you how you can figure it out. You will need a handheld digital voltmeter. Use the meter to determine whether there is power present in either one of the wires. And observe the meter reading. If the meter is reading a negative voltage then you swap your leads to get a positive reading. Now your red test lead is on the + and your black test lead is on the negative and you have your answer.

Scottyb's right with testing. Should be red/yellow power all the time from the run/tow switch, red/white when ignition switch turned on to accelerator stop switch. If this is your plan, may need to upgrade main wireharness fuse from 3 amp to higher.

Thanks for the replies, I will first check to confirm on a voltmeter which is which. I should be able to borrow one; Btw which setting would I put the voltmeter on to do this?

Thanks!
