It will read 1/2 of the actual RPM in the 4 cylinder position, since a golf cart only has one cylinder (but I believe it has a phantom spark on the exhaust stroke for 1 spark per revolution, like a 2 stroke). It's possible to modify an automotive tach, but you'd have to calibrate it against a known good unit.
