Default Boring G1 cylinder?

Has anyone done this themselves? I have a bridgeport mill and a good boring head, just wondered what to watch for? How much to leave for the hone and such. I've never bored cast before but lots of aluminum and steel.
Thanks,
Mike

have you found a piston that fits your overbore ?

I think most people just replace the worn cyl
with a new one
but would like to hear of a oversized piston esp if it also bumps the c/r
and was OME quality

found one but from taiwan china

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-G1-2-...p=mtr#viTabs_0

and no idea if stock or higher c/r

or if that piston will fit my oddball 1982g-1 coded J-17
after a 1mm over bore ?
and bring up my J-17's low compression ?

more digging found a 3rd oversized piston on e-bay for the 250 S-M motor
but no clue to actual size
is 20 40 60 thousands of an INCH used in metric oversized piston and rings ?
or other system ?

I may just scrap the slow j-17/82/g-1 piston head and cyl
but may need to overbore the 250cc S-M cyl as I can only find used ones
does going with a 1st oversized bore and rings also require a new oversized piston to match ?

Its not that hard to find pistons for the G1. The J17 uses the same piston as the J10. The difference between the J17 and J10 is the Jug in respects to reed cage, ports and exhaust size. Piston is the same! I had an 82 and its really not that bad and there are some things you can easily do to gain back the lost compression such as milling the head and boring the cylinder, or do the swap talked about earlier Nota. I think you would benefit from a manual. There are 4 sizes, std, .25mm, .50mm, .75mm, 1.0mm. Its the same for the enticer head your looking at also...

TRYED THE MANUAL list above as a stickie
84 is the oldest nothing on the one year only 82 j-17 oddball
nor any parts list for the 82 oddball
it seems along with lower compression they use a 4 reed smaller intake track
vs every other g-1 used a wider 6 reed intake as does the snowmobile 250 version
now I am no expert 2 stroke tuner
but a sudden transition from a wider intake to a narrow restriction
does not seem a good idea !
I guess they wanted a smoother GOLF cart but got a SLOWER one in the 82 j-17 g-1

we are allowed in our city/village to street use golf carts with a 20 mph limit
without tag reg or insurance just a one time city sticker and a drivers lic
so I am shooting for good acceleration with a 25 mph top 20 cruse
and I donot think this tired stock 82 will do that

Having an 82 g1 mine did 30 mph... Start with removing the gov. Check your compression, if you're below 90psi then there is a need for a new piston. If you need more, do some head work like i described earlier or swap heads. They don't make j17 parts anymore. But any j10 parts besides head, reeds and carb will work.

just wondered what to watch for?
Remember it will be an interrupted cut, so go very small and slow.
Re chamfer the ports.

Yea, it's chattering really bad, I made the cutter more pointed and it was better. I can't believe how out of round the bore was. I had .0015-.002 indicator runout. My hone is way to fine also, It is like a 600 and I'm thinking I need like a 2-300 to start and then finish with the 600.
Thanks,
Mike
