Re: Desulfating batteries with epsom salt
all they need to know is if they have a dead cell or not .
no dead cells mean it can be repaired, how long it last..well. who really know but if they only get another year out of it they will ahead of the game over buy a new battery, if they have a electric cart and have many batterys can save loads of $$$$$ |

Re: Desulfating batteries with epsom salt
Which brings up a question from me. What good is a battery tester if you can't add something to bring it back to life. Looks like if you test it after a charge and it shows it won't hold one, then toss and head for the store. I've never used a battery tester to measure specific gravity (or whatever it's called) so that might be my lack of understanding that brings forth this question.

Re: Desulfating batteries with epsom salt
Ok, alot of you have seen this thread and others like it
and most ask if epsom salts in a battery works? well im in the process of making a video that will go through the steps of adding it to a lead acid battery the battery i will be using is small, a 17 AH 12 volt back up battery simply because it will be faster to treat, charge and test i will post the video here and in this thread; http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/video...e-charger.html and i welcome any questions |

Re: Desulfating batteries with epsom salt
Hey Red, good video...
but they need to understand there are 2 main reason batteries fail this time i will keep it simple 1) broken plates inside, this is time to toss out.. and get a new one..(less common reason) 2) build up on plate from old age and not keeping the battery fully charged.. this can be repaired and you can get some life from it...(this is the most common reason) you can prevent some of this by slowing down the process by charging your battery fully even in the winter, the lower the voltage the battery goes, the faster the build up will happen inside your battery, this is why some people get a year out of a small battery and some get several years. batterys loss there charge faster in colder weather. just taking your batteries inside for the winter and keeping them charge will get you 2 or 3 times the life from them as you may now. having a battery tender is a must for everyone, ($30) that is a small price compare to just one battery.. |
