Default Removing steering wheel & column from 1973 Taylor-Dunn GT.361?

In the process of stripping my 1973 Taylor-Dunn GT.361, and have come to an impasse.

How does one remove the steering wheel and/or steering column?

I have removed the nut at the very top of the column, just under the cap on top of the wheel, to seemingly no change.

I have disassembled the gear box at the other end of the column, to the point I am able, but am unable to free the column shaft that slides inside, and I figured I must be doing something wrong, as I did not feel what I was doing was the way to go, but have been unable to see another way to approach the thing.

Searched around here and elsewhere, but have come up with little.

Appreciate any suggestions.

There should be an access panel on the side of the steering column housing..on the bottom right. Remove it..you will see a bolt holding the shaft to the gear box..remove it. Take the four bolts out that hold the housing onto the cart floor. Remove the housing and shaft off of the gear box as one unit. Drive the shaft out of the housing.

Ohio,

I thank you for the particulars of that operation.

I did end up doing what you describe, and then some, though not so straightforward, efficient and cleanly, and likely taking 3 times the time and effort of your method, but now I know.

Thanks again.
