Default Re: 1996 GXT804D - Was Running, Now Nothing

Posting back with a few updates....

The first is that the manual for a 1996 Workhorse (Manual 28340-G01) is NOT the same as the one for the GXT/Tuff1. I have a hard copy that I could scan and upload to somewhere if anyone/the mods want it.

Other than that, I did a bunch of maintenance items and electrical stuff. Changed plugs, fuel filter, adjusted valves, air filter is on order. Pulled the battery and painted the tray, and installed 4 gauge cables. Replaced several bad crimps, and pulled out a wiring harness that wasnt connected to anything anymore. Had the battery load tested at Advance and it checks out good.

The end result is that the voltage when the cart is running didnt change, so Im not charging. I tried to check following the service manual procedure of ohming the leads on the voltage regulator, and I came back with more than zero on the green leg (DF terminal) According to the manual, that means its bad.

I had also read on here that if I ground out that lead with a jumper, I should see full generator output. Is that right? They reference a yellow wire, and mine is green. I dont want to let the smoke out of something by shorting it.

My suspicion is that my regulator is bad, but I dont just want to change it without testing it as bad first.

Confirmed that the VR is the culprit....have a new one on the way. Green one is the one to ground off of the DF terminal.
