Default G2 Tension Cable

When I got my G2 project there was no Tension cable installed. I have searched several places that advertise Yamaha parts and no one seems to offer the part. I have several questions.
1. Do I really need this installed?
2. Does anyone have or know where to buy one of these?
3. Has anyone installed solid engine mounts to eliminate the need for this?
4. Has anyone made one of these from a solid rod instead of a cable?
Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

1. Do I really need this installed?

Yes, when the clutches shift the belt tension actually pulls on engine mounts and the cradle moves. This will cause less shift out and lower speeds. It messes with the gear ratio.

Also, if your engine mounts are not in good condition the extra movement can cause the rubber to split apart. That would not be a good scenario.

2. Does anyone have or know where to buy one of these?

Yamaha dealer?

3. Has anyone installed solid engine mounts to eliminate the need for this?

Yes, this can be done with no negative effects, aside from maybe some engine vibration transmitting to the frame. You might feel it.

4. Has anyone made one of these from a solid rod instead of a cable?

Yes, I used a piece of flat stock and drilled two holes and bolted it in place of the cable. Same idea.

I have made some out of governor adjuster rod & a bolt. It's a threaded rod already perfect for you to install.
