2005 G27a engine swap
I'm new to the golf cart world, the engine that's in there is shot. Has anyone installed a aftermarket engine, does the clutch need an adapter? Any information would help. Thanks in advance.

Re: 2005 G27a engine swap
I'm not familiar with that particular cart, but engine swaps have been done to all kinds of carts. Check out the Big Block section and do some reading. Clone engines are the easiest IMO. They are Chinese "clones" of the Honda GX390 engine. Harbor Freight has a 420cc version, it's been battle tested and is the best value for the money. Yes you'll need a clutch for it to be right, but you can adapt yours, although I don't recommend it. |

Re: 2005 G27a engine swap
Much depends on what "aftermarket engine" you intend to use. Most will turn the same direction (counter clockwise - as viewed from the drive clutch). Beyond that the crankshaft diameter depends on which engine. Most aftermarket small engines will have a straight shaft (O.E. Yamaha uses a 1" tapered shaft) there are adapters for some configurations out there, but you may want to use a different clutch more suited to the engine you choose. Lots of choices out there.
There is section here specifically regarding "Big Block" engine swaps: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/forumdisplay.php?f=30 You might find more information about your particular situation there. |
