Default Head locator dowel substitute

Getting old isn’t for sissies. I put every nut and bolt in bags and label them cause I can’t remember what I had for breakfast but somehow lost one of the locator dowels. In a very rural area and need a substitute. Any suggestions? There’s no machine shops near by to get a dowel from.

If you have some alum rod, you can put in a drill press and hold a file on it to make it smaller. When right size cut the end off length you need. Might be what he was saying.

You know after you make one you will find the original sitting right there....

Well it gets better, used magnets looking in grass for it with no luck. Called a friend that just so happens to be camping near me with a metal detector. I go to get it and as I hand him the mate to what I’m looking for he drops it between 3 of us and we can’t find it! Going to get battery for metal detector. Soon as I find these SOB’s I’m having an adult beverage.

Thanks for the offer of looking in your shop, there’s a parade in the lakeside community coming up and I’m under the gun to get this running soon.

Can you use a drill bit shank to determine size? Maybe an auto parts store has a little box of dowel pins . . . or take a cut-off wheel to the correct size drill . . .
they’re cheap, and likely hard “ enough”

Has to be hollow in center, the head bolts go thru it. I’ll just drive the hour into town tomorrow to get one from the dealer.
