I have seen this one a good few times in the past. And here's the solution, buy a new Yamaha lock nut. The "lock" part of the lock nut wears out after several uses, and will allow it to come off. I chased that demon myself, clutches keep falling off in the parking lot for no good reason. Been there, done that, and was so pleasantly pleased when a new locknut instantly solved it.

Here's a Yamaha part number that will work for you, it is from a newer model (newer part number = easier to get), but the clutch is the same.

95607-12200-00 NUT, SELF-LOCKING

Just curious, it is a crush nut? or a nylon insert type ? ( heard we can’t say
“ Nylock “ anymore - ) or struck nut?
They all fail with repeated on & off cycles. Used to take a torch briefly to the nylon, to get a few more passes of “lock” out of ‘em.

Neither, it has little "metal wings" in the spot where the nylon would be on a "nylon insert nut"

Thanks cgtech- sounds like a one-time-use item. Old IH and VW ( and I’m sure others) had a small washer with “ears” to be pried/bent to trap a nut. I like simple !

You can totally get more than one use, but it's uses are a "finite resource", and won't last forever. I have reused so many of them, but, once in a while you run into one that's "just done". For someone who is testing clutch springs to find the perfect spring, you better plan on finishing that job with a new nut. And I can't tell by looking at it if it's game over, but if it comes apart, you know. (At least it comes apart soon, like test driving stage, I have never seen one come back months later because of this)

Lol, "bent wings", like the primary clutch bolt on early G1 primary clutches.
