Default 91 ezgo 2 stroke jerky start

I think I know why this is happening but wondering if there are other possibilities. When starting, it fires up fine and then I can hold the pedal down slightly to keep it running. Once I move the pedal further down and the clutch engages as the engine speed increases the cart jerks to a start. I think the belt is slightly too big. I've taken to holding my left foot on the brake and releasing once engaged so as to keep the beer spillage to a minimum. I assume the easiest way to check the belt size is to measure, but I can't seem to figure out which is the right size belt as it appears there's are a couple different sizes depending on the manufacture date..

Is it possible it is not the belt?

Thanks for any input anyone may have.

Alex
