It locks the gears together if I remember right, though I don't know about strength. It puts a lot more stress on the diff.

that should act like "Spool", not a "Posi". a posi allows (with resistance) the outer wheel to spin faster in a turn. a spool does not, both wheels always turn same speed, no matter what.

Its a planetary diff, likely makes it harder to do a posi for it. Though maybe most figure its so old they are not going to bother.

I'm ready to lock the rear now since this is a woods cart and I need the extra traction. However, I'm concerned about what cgtech said:

>IMPORTANT< Use a gasket for the axle housing "halves", dont replace the gasket with only silicone to seal the two halves together, the gasket's thickness is part of the spacing for the gears & bearings. its one of those things where "maybe" there is enough tolerance, maybe not, dont find out the expensive way there was not enough.

The gasket is discontinued and I can't find one anywhere. Does anyone know where to get a gasket? Does anyone know if this can be done without the gasket and still work?

Here's what CGTECH told me when I was separating the case halves to do some work on the governor. He was right. Gasket paper from your local auto parts store is good. Sorry, I don't know anything about locking the transmission
