Default Starter/Generator Questions..

Hey guys/gals,

Got my G2 pretty much wrapped up from the Honda GX270 swap, got the customer made S/G pulley done and installed, got belt tensioner all setup and I'm ready to run some fresh wires.. was thinking while doing all this..

my engine is NOW setup to run all the time unless I manually push a killswitch button. Im going to be using the S/G to start it, and obviously charge when its running.. when I let of the pedal, its technically supposed to shut off...so since its wired to do that, but DOESNT, will this cause any adverse affects to the S/G?

Also, whats the typical output of the S/G as far as watts or amps? I tried to research this question but didn't come up with any real solid answers..

Not sure on amperage but on the peddle issue I don't see it being an issue other than the solenoid won't be active and won't be charging the battery but if you don't plan to idle it for long periods of time with a big draw on the battery I wouldn't worry about it

The S/G should put out around 15 amps at operating speed, not idling, since the solinoid is only entergized when starting the engine, you need a diode across the two battery termimals on the solinoid in order for the gen to supply power back into the battery

Thank you all for the info.

So what your saying is, even when pedal isn't depressed, it will still produce power? I just figured once I let off pedal, and solenoid cuts power, it'd kill its 12 volt supply and stop "generating" power.

Help clarify something - when you depress the gas pedal (like starting the engine or just driving it) is the solenoid energized?

And when you let off the gas pedal, the solenoid denergizes but the engine keeps running?

No diode is needed then, you should be all set.

Ok so deadheading the current OUT of the S/G when its running won't hurt the S/G?

Not sure; mine is key start and has a big diode across the terminals to allow for charging when solinoid is not entergized
