91 G8 gas more power in reverse than forward
I have a 91 G8 that runs sluggish in forward and wont pull hills. I have taken the carb apart and cleaned and put back together with no noticeable results. I have taken most of the wire connectors apart and cleaned with contact cleaner. changed the spark plug. put in a new air filter and made sure that the air box is sealed. The one thing I did that made a difference was I unhooked the micro switch for the reverse buzzer and that made the cart run sluggish and with no power in both forward and reverse, so I reconnected it and it made the cart return to responsive and full power in reverse but no change at all to forward.

After running the cart in forward or awhile and pull the plug see what it looks like. Have you done a compression check? Reverse is geared a little higher than forward have you ran the cart in nuetral and watched the clutches to see if they are shifting properly?

Re: 91 G8 gas more power in reverse than forward
Compression on the motor was 160. I will take a look at the oil again but it was just changed also. And I have looked at the clutches they appear to be working correctly, I do see that the secondary is missing a button but it appears to be working. What I thought was weird was when i am in reverse with the micro switch connected it will pulls hills but only in reverse not forward but when I disconnect the switch it will not pull a hill in either gear.

Re: 91 G8 gas more power in reverse than forward
The clutch spring seat should have all of the ramps installed. New ones will make a difference. A Yamaha u-max spring is a cheap investment for more torque. Condition of the secondary sheaves and drive belt width is important. Replace if less than 1 1/16" wide. Reverse is a lower ratio--higher numerically--than forward.

Just wondering why disconnecting the micro switch makes it run worse?
