Default Re: Who has switched to a shorter 2 stroke drive belt??

*edit* Well, I just tried a few hills with the "other half" (who only recently is out of her cast and "normal" again after this springs cart incident) and I'm pretty sure the belt is going back to stock, the cart had to struggle to make a couple of small-medium hills that it normally zips right up with the two of us ... I can't see where a break-in is going to help, it just seems to be applying power FAR too early in the powerband (actually, far before it even kicks in) - anyone want to speculate on if I'm just being impatient or ?, if not I'm going to have a brand new HP3004 for $30 shipped in the "for sale" forum tomorrow

Geez this post has been around awhile ... Anyhow, after breaking in, I definitely stand by the shorter belt (in fact I've done the belt swap on 2 carts now)

Another little tidbit, but on the new cart my driven clutch was pretty worn, and the shorter belt was actually falling down between the sheaves at high speed and binding as the tension was so low in the clutch ... I pulled the clutch apart and gave the tired old spring a good reverse stretching in the vice to make it a bit longer, and WOW did that make a difference in power too (basically stretched the old spring into a "power" spring, in effect)

it took about a week or so to stop being grabby and for the cart to stop rolling with the starter, once that mellowed out then it was fine ...

The driven clutch is the rear, you are correct. In my other running post "weird clutch problem" I have photos of the procedure, you'll need a gear puller (3-jaw) and a good sized vice but it goes rather smoothly and quickly
