Power upgrade recommendations
I'm new to the electric golf cart scene and looking for advice and direction.
I was given the task of resurecting an XI-875 for use on our farm; someone told my dad that it was just what he needed. This hasn't ran in years, so I'm starting with the electrical system. It's 36V and has a 2hp motor. I'm looking to get the most powerful motor available, speed isn't an issue. Who has the best motor? What else needs to be changed/upgraded? Would all the switches need to be changed? Are all the wiring harnesses the same between all ez-go carts, or are the industrials different? Thank you in advance |

Re: Power upgrade recommendations
Can you post a pic of what you have? That will help us.
A big torque motor is a good thing, provided you have the battery pack to feed it & a capable delivery system. |

Re: Power upgrade recommendations
I think it was used in a plant at one time. It needs some love. The previous owner used it around his estate and said it didn't have much power. All the things I've read about this says it should have a 8hp motor, but this one has GE 2hp on the tag. We bought 6 new Interstate golf cart batteries for the 36V system, but want to make the upgrades before we install them. I'm not opposed to changing out everything to make it do what we need. We have some rolling ground that we will be driving on, so I want as much off-road power as I can get - speed isn't an issue.
I've found different 8hp motors for 36V on different websites for a wide range of prices, but I don't know what makes one better than the next. If we change out the motor and controler, should I convert it to 48V for more power? I looked at the sponsors webpage with the bandit/executor/assassin and I'm not sure what I need; I know I don't need one that does 50, just low end grunt. Can you buy different ring & pinions for these for more power? |

Re: Power upgrade recommendations
No direction, eh?
It's not that intimidating, I think it uses the same parts as other carts. It has a 19 spline motor and a 400 amp controller. The cables need to be replaced due to age and corossion, but will the old controller support a larger motor? I'd really like to find a wiring diagram. I'm going to pull it all apart and sandblast the chassis. |

Re: Power upgrade recommendations
You might be surprised what that 2hp will do if it can get the amps it wants. I used my Medalist in a transloading yard and I pushed and pulled all kinds of big heavy stuff around. Keep your connections clean and tight, maybe throw an Alltrax 400 amp controller at it. If you can find a good 8 hp to use, go for it. Otherwise call Plum Quick and tell them what you want it to do.

Re: Power upgrade recommendations
The attached might help some.
There are a couple forum members with similar beasts, so they might drop in. Might be a good idea to include the model in the thread title so they would see it. Which interstate batteries did you get? Hopefully the higher Amp-Hour ones. What ever they are, get them charged and keep them charged. New batteries have to be broken in to obtains full storage capacity. Here is how to do it. http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Batter...n_Methods.html |

Re: Power upgrade recommendations
I use a similar cart around the shop. I have it on 48v with a 700a control and 10hp D&D torque motor. It is not very fast but, it has some pulling power

I got the green top Interstates. I don't know the amp-hour, the sales guy acted like there was only one choice. I told him I needed golf cart batteries and he started carrying them out; is there more than 1 style? Quote:
That's good, I'm not looking for speed, but a lot of torque. It has a Curtis 400 amp controler on it now, would I need to upgrade? I sent D&D a request - they didn't post any pricing on their website, what should I be looking at for price on a set up like yours? |
