Default 1999 txt upgrade ?

Hi everyone, I've been researching a lot on golf carts lately and this site has been the most helpful. I figured since I read up here a lot I might as well become a member lol.

I've just recently bought a 1999 ego txt cart with new batteries and has the rear seat. I've read where these carts are the best for off road use and are great torque carts. This cart will always be off-road and hardly ever see pavement. I used my gps and checked the mph at 16 mph with me and 3 buddies on it. Is that a average speed or could it possibly have some upgrades already??

Im also working on getting a 5" lift and some 23" tires for it as well. Will this kill the torque and how much will it help mph wise?? What are a few simple things I could do to stay around 20 mph and still have the torque??

Thanks, john

20 mph series cart with 23" tires & 4 guys on it? It will be best if you can upgrade the entire drive system:

Controller
Solenoid
F&R switch
Cables
Motor

Thanks for the fast reply Scottyb. I've been to ur website and looked at ur kits. I've got my eye on a few lol. I'm wanting to get the lift n tires so it will ride better first but shortly after I will upgrade. What could I do for temporary? I've seen where upgrading cables n controller, etc. help it run cooler n pick up mph and torque.

Tires will increase the load on the controller F&R and motor. An upgrade is eminent. Some things like the F&R and Controller/solenoid combo should be upgraded before they fail... And bigger cables will allow the motor to draw increased amperage to meet the higher work load PROVIDED your controller etc can deliver.

Do you know what motor you have? I have in my txt the stock high speed motor. You can see it in my profile. I have gotten speeds of 22mph with just me on it. And that is with a 3inch lift and 20inch tires. (22's should be faster).

If you have the high speed motor, I would think a controller/solenoid, f&R, and 2 or 4 gauge cables should get you what you want..

The 48 volt upgrade is going to give you an increase of 33% in torque and speed. You could use between 4-500 amps, most aftermarket motors work best with 500 amps.

Scotty, when you go to 48 - do you have to rewire or change out charger port?
