ezgo solenoid heat issue
ok first off hi everyone, my name is Dylan. i have a 2006 ezgo pds with a 6 inch lift and oversized wheels and tires. and the issue im running into is the solenoid keeps getting very hot. i did the run tow test it beeps twice for stage 2 and when it started messing up it did a 2-1 beep for low battery voltage the batteries were putting out 38 volts at the time to the solenoid so i put a new solenoid and its running fine but still getting hot what shout i do next. oh yea i still have a stock controller can i just put alarger solenoid?
thanks |

Re: ezgo solenoid heat issue
Welcome to BGW!
Two beeps is Steep Hill mode. So you got heavy regen braking and a top speed of 13-13.5 MPH with stock height tires. Taller tires gives you more speed and less torque, so the end result is usually shorter run-time and more heat because the motor draws more amps to turn same RPM. A hot solenoid mean the contacts have high resistance. Tall tires makes this problem more noticeable. A new stock solenoid or higher rated solenoid, might run cooler, but the heat load will shift to the controller. When the controller blows, which it will with tall tires and a heavy foot, replace it with an aftermarket controller with a 400A or higher rating and matching solenoid, as well as 4Ga or larger high current cables (all 10 cables) |

Re: ezgo solenoid heat issue
Thanks slot Jonnie so before the controller goes out I should prob go ahead and get an aftermarket one? Any controller y'all suggest I would prefer a mid range priced one not the best but not the cheapest. I have to keep the wife happy. And with the wires is 2 gauge to much?

Re: ezgo solenoid heat issue
Most of the site sponsors sell controllers, but you've got to figure out what you want to do with cart. (Offroad - Street - Golf - Utility - Hunting - Beach - Etc.)
Scottyb at carts unlimited has some good info on how to choose and has some controller/solenoid packages the play well together as well as Cables. Tons of good info on the website. http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html 2Ga cables aren't too big, I have them on a stock PDS cart. I use them for efficiency since they have less resistance than 4Ga and any resistance in the high current (motor) circuit is a power loss. |
